Blog The Week #4
Last week was filming week for my Final Major Project. Although I did lots of planning I came across lots of problems. Firstly, my friend who was going to be my model didn't know if she was available on the day I was planning on filming. This meant I had to ask other people if they could be in it instead. Fortunately my other friend, who was originally going to help with filming, kindly stepped in. However, this lead me to my next problem, I had to do everything off camera; lighting, music, filming, directing the model and do all the hair and makeup. This was really difficult as I couldn't see what was happening on camera when I was doing the makeup, for example. There were lots of parts which I had to cut out or re do either because I was in frame or the model moved into a different part of the frame and I didn't see.
Another issue I had was the fact that I was filming in an enclosed area so the space we had was really limited and I had to move lots of stuff around in order to be able to access the equipment, the makeup/hair stuff and the model. This also meant that I would often be inbetween the model and the light so there were quite a few shadows and I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to edit this out in my post production work or not.
The last issue I had whilst filming was the end shot of the model in a shower and the water flowing over her. The main problem was the amount of space I had to do this, it was really cramped so I couldn't fit in a light and the angle I had to film it wasn't the way I wanted it to be as it wasn't that symmetrical. The next part of the problem was of course the element of water and steam. I positioned the camera as far away as possible from the water and zoomed in slightly so it would look closer in, I then made sure that the water was cold enough for there to be little steam but hot enough for the model to stand in.
Although I have had lots of problems filming, I think the overall outcome of the shots is really nice as I have looked through them all and the majority of them are completely fine, but I have seen some parts which I need to cut out or edit.
