The Future
Brief
You will be given a live client assignment brief; for Plymouth School of Creative Arts and Janie Grace (Jack and His Brother). You will be working with a group of 9 year old students in order to produce a short film, with a maximum duration of 3-4 minutes, loosely based on their concepts of the future. They are the directors, and as a team, you are responsible for the realisation of their film idea.
You will get involved in a series of workshops/activities that explore environmental issues. Document your findings of these experiences. Explore those issues. Research into how different photographers, artists and filmmakers have approached these issues. Consider (and record) your own opinions, thoughts and feelings about the environment - what matters to you?
The final outcome will be a series of outcomes that meets your chosen client brief, including a final short film screened at both PSCA and PCA. You will also produce a blog documenting your research, ideas development, self-reflection and problem solving processes.
Planning
Once we received the folder of ideas from the kids we started to figure out what they wanted to happen in the film. This was really difficult because each kid had different ideas and we had to figure out how they all fitted together.
This is the script they made that had the majority of their ideas on. From this script and the other plans they made, we put together a summary of the story.
We then made a table of the main issues we would have to face whilst making this film and how we could over come them.
The day after we first received this project and the story ideas, a few people from each group were able to go over to the school and talk to the kids about their ideas and ask any questions to them. I went along with another member of my group and we had lots of questions for them about their story. All the answers we got back had so much detail in them and I thought we were going to have to take some part out of the story if we were going to make the film possible.
