The Lone Ranger
This video was inspired by this description written by our tutors:
‘A lone character arrives in an unknown location. S/he observes the activities that go on and takes in the ‘flavour’ of the place. The people start looking at the character with suspicion. The character turns around and walks away in long shot. But it won’t be long before s/he returns.‘
In this project we experimented with single camera techniques which is when a director chooses to film with only one camera instead of multiple cameras. Many soap (Eastenders, Coronation Street, Emmerdale) directors use multiple cameras as it is easier to produce the show quickly because you can do a scene once and have 4/5 different shots of the same scene. However this limits the amount of interesting shots you can have due to the other cameras in the room.
We also had the challenge of creating this piece using only 20 shots, so each shot had to be planned carefully so we could tell a small story which still made sense.
