The Kuleshov Effect
Lev Kuleshov was a Russian and Soviet filmmaker and film theorist during the early 20th century and was one of the founders of the worlds first film school, the Moscow Film School. Kuleshov is most famous for creating the Kuleshov effect which was an editing technique and exercise.
The Kuleshov Effect
The Kuleshov Effect is placing two or more clips together and created an emotion that is visible to the audience. For example Kuleshovhe filmed various shots including a child in a casket, a bowl of soup, a woman lying down and one of his colleagues staring into the camera with no expression. When placed together the audience believes that the same clip of the man has different emotions. I have made my own video showing the Kuleshov Effect in action.
