Blog The Week #3
Monday 19th
We spent most of the day in our groups brain storming ideas and planning shots for the short film we have to make, I mostly used this blog to do that. Once we had finalised the shots we wanted we each made a storyboard and a powerpoint so we could 'pitch' the ideas to our tutors. Instead of making two things I decided to combine them to make it a bit easier.
Tuesday 20th
We pitched our ideas to our tutors and filled out all the forms we needed to in order for us to go off site and went out filming. Most of the shots I wanted I needed to film outside of college time so I mostly helped the other people in my group to achieve the shots they wanted. There was one shot that I wanted to film that I needed someone else to film, which would be a very long shot of my back as I walked back to college which would be sped up. I wanted to show that this is where I've got to in my life and I will slow it down towards the end to hopefully show that I don't know where this will lead or if it will lead anywhere. This shot was partly inspired by the exponential growth project that we did as I liked the effect it gave. We managed to film about 9 minutes of footage for this shot and I hope to condense it into 10 seconds.
In the afternoon I made some short montages of me practicing different focusing and speeding up footage techniques.
We were also shown an animation called "Boys Latin" by Encyclopedia Pictura along with it's behind the scenes video.
I thought the video was really amazing, the animation is beautiful and it has really nice imagery. I think the story line is quite nice too, the message I take from it is that the main character has had something weird and foreign put in their life that they cant get away from. At first they try to fight it but as they learn to accept it they can control it, they then use their experiences to help other people going through the same situation to accept it.
The Behind the Scenes video is really interesting, I hope to learn how to animate and looking at the video shows me how much there is to learn but the effects can be amazing.
