According to 'thebalance.com' the average person in the US spent $51,100 in 2013 and this has steadily increased to $57,311 in 2016. The average age in America is 38.1 [1] and from this I found the average yearly earning for an American between the ages of 35 and 44 is $50,752 in 2017 [3]. From this it is clear to see that the average American is spending more than they earn. This supports my idea in my proposal about how we, as a society, value materialistic things and place a high importance on owning things.
